Tomorrow's my first swimming lesson... I'm nervous, yet excited at the same time. I better get some sleep soon or else I won't be able to wake in time for it! Wish me luck! Maybe we'll get some pictures of the experience...

Lihue, Kauai. Work took me to Lihue, Kauai again yesterday. On the way back from Koloa, we stopped off at the Kauai Marriott in Lihue to walk through and take a few pictures.

Isn't this the idyllic scene that most people think of when they imagine a Hawaiian vacation? Gee, I'd like to take a Hawaiian vacation sometime...
Would you believe that moments after taking these photos, it started to rain? You wouldn't be able to tell, judging by the blue skies overhead. I guess that's what you would call "liquid sunshine."

No, this isn't a phallic symbol. It's the back of a tiki that was carved out of a coconut tree. There are several that line the beach outside of the hotel.
Maybe I'll drag Hubby to Kauai for a short vacation sometime. Although he's lived in Hawaii almost his entire life, he hasn't yet visited the Garden Isle. We'll have to change that very soon.

Friday Five! I haven't done this for a while... it's the Friday Five!:
1. How often do you do laundry? Usually about twice a week, but I do laundry en masse on the weekends, usually doing about 3-4 loads in one day.
2. What's in a typical wash load? 1) Whites and towels. 2) Light colors. 3) Darks. 4) Delicates.
3. Front or top loader? Powder or liquid detergent? Top loader. Powder detergent.
4. Do you use fabric softener in the rinse cycle? Nope! I use a fabric softener in the dryer.
5. Dryer or clothesline? About 85% of my stuff gets thrown into the dryer. However, if I have delicates that are supposed to be dry cleaned (yes, I sometimes cheat) or handwashed, I will hang those on the line. If I'm not lazy, I also hang my dark clothes since repetitive drying in the dryer often fades my predominantly black wardrobe. To tell you the truth, I'm lazy most of the time when it comes to laundry.

As promised... The mega-entry for last week Friday, June 7, 2002 has been posted. TONS of photos, so please be patient while it loads. In fact, I had to split the entry into 2 parts since it was so graphic intensive (and long-winded)... There's an entry for our Circle Island Adventure as well as one dedicated to our wild Karaoke Night! Enjoy!

Yes, I'm still alive... just busy. I hope to catch up with some entries this weekend. In the meantime, I really need to get off my butt and get ready for work!

"Conservative." Hubby and I went to look for some swimwear for me in preparation for my very first swimming class next week Saturday. There's something you must know about me to appreciate this, and it's that I am totally not a beach person (or a pool person, for that matter). The most horrifying thought to me is having to don a bikini and go out where someone might possibly catch a glimpse of my untanned and untoned form. I liken myself to the Ghostbusters Marshmallow Man, but not quite that tall. My last bathing suit was left in a drawer for years and years and when I finally took it out to use it during my trip in Guam the spandex had lost all of its elasticity and it puffed up like a big black balloon when I got into the water. I looked like an abandoned pool toy floating on the surface of the water. How embarassing. Needless to say, that suit went straight into the trash can.
So, it's literally been years since I went out shopping for a swimsuit. I figured that I'd buy a one-piece swimsuit and a pair of board shorts. The board shorts were easy to find, a quick trip to Blue Wave and we were out of there with a pair of red slippers and a floral-print board shorts. Then we trekked over to Sports Authority in search of the swimsuit. There was a storewide sale going on and swimsuits were 40-50% off, which kinda boggled my mind since summer is only beginning.
All of the sale items weren't too great, but I found a Speedo swimsuit with a tag that said "Sized as Conservative." It turned out to be the most comfortable -- and covered up the most. I joked with Hubby about deciding on the "old lady" suit. It's no wonder that folks think I'm older -- I have the mentality of a 40-year-old about a lot of things, clothing included. Sorry, no g-strings bikinis here.
So, I'm taking a photo of the swimsuit laid out on our bed and Hubby tells me to put it on so that he can take a picture of me in the suit. I told him that it would simply be too frightening for my site visitors and would possibly drive most of them away. Maybe there will be some pictures of the swimming lesson this upcoming weekend. After all, we have to document this momentous event in my life. I'm making an effort to overcome a lifelong phobia of mine -- swimming. I am hoping and praying that it will not be too traumatic for me. My excitement level is pretty high, so hopefully all that adrenaline will wash out any fear that might still be lingering in there. I'm looking forward to being more active with water sports once I learn how to swim. Pray for me!

 A Tiny Celebration.
Last night was family night. Hubby and I took my folks out to the Waikiki Shell to check out the concert sponsored by Tiny Tadani and New Hope Christian Fellowship. Even though we've lived here all of our lives, we've never attended a concert at the Waikiki Shell. Can you believe it? What homebodies, we are!
Shari and her fiancee Gabe also joined us. It was a wonderful evening of music and relaxation, with a view of Diamond Head and palm trees swaying in the distance. The weather was perfect, except for the very light showers of blessing about midway through the concert. With 2 coolers full of food and drinks and blankets spread out on the lawn, it was more of a picnic atmosphere than a concert.
A myriad of local Hawaiian musicians were on the bill. Being that I'm not much of a Hawaiian music fan, I didn't know most of them, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Pastor Wayne Cordeiro co-hosted the concert with Tiny Tadani and he even had a chance to share a little bit about Jesus before the New Hope hula halau came onstage to perform the finale. I am praying that hearts were touched, not only by the beautiful music that we all enjoyed, but also by the message and the love of Christ.

In the meantime... While I work on the mega-entry about Friday, you can check out the photos:
Wade & Kamuela in Hawaii Kai. Circle Island. Not too many scenic shots, but a lot of pictures of my 3 photogenic friends captured in pixels. The non-photogenic folks (moi) are better off behind the lens. By the way, we also caught up with Kory and her 2.5 week old baby Amanda at Starbucks along the way!
Me, Shari and Bari. Karaoke. Check out the adventures at the Karaoke Room 2. Four hours of non-stop craziness.
