Playing Tourist. Hubby, Shari and I went to take some photos from around the island and ended up at a scenic point a little bit down the road from Hanauma Bay. The reason why we were playing tourist was because Shari's boyfriend is in Bosnia (for six months) and was feeling a little homesick. He wanted pictures to stick on the wall to remind him of Shari and of Hawai`i.

Sometimes getting the right placement for a photo op puts you in some pretty precarious positions.

I promised April some pictures from here and there around Hawai`i, so here's a sampling for now...

Well-deserved. Poor Hubby has been working himself to the bone since forever. It's time he took a well-deserved vacation -- with me. We never travel together and really have only been on two trips together (to neighbor islands) since we've started dating. In between then, I've been to all of the major Hawaiian islands (too many times to count), Vegas (twice), Okinawa (twice) and Guam (once). Hubby has been to Washington and South (or was it North?) Carolina -- both times for business, not pleasure.

But next week, it will be pleasure all the way! Our first trip together in years! Yeah, baby, we're going to Vegas! I won't be taking my laptop this time, so all of the updates will come after I get back.

The excitement just hit me. In fact, I haven't been thinking much about it until tonight. Now I can't wait! Only 4 more days until we're on vacation! Woo!

Full Circle. It seems cyclic. I get this feeling of discontentment and restlessness about once every six months or so. This time, it refuses to be shaken. For the first time in years, I believe that it's the right time. [more]

Where time stands still. Ted and I went out to do site visits today which took us to the North Shore of our beautiful island of Oahu. 4 offices were on our schedule: Haleiwa, Waialua, Kahuku and Laie. Since Ted was driving, I had the opportunity to simply sit back and enjoy the scenery.

The North Shore reminds me of the neighbor islands. It feels as though time moves at a slower pace than it does in the city, seemingly to give you more time to stop and smell the plumerias, enjoy the warmth of the sun on your face and the salty breeze of the ocean spray blowing through your hair. If I didn't have to commute, I would consider living in the "country" where my house overlooked the ocean or was nestled against a lush, green mountainside. [Of course, I would also require a high-speed internet connection to consider relocating as well. Gotta have the necessities, you know.]

Reality Check. Surely, after a week of that slow lifestyle, I would grow bored and would end up driving to the city anyway. It's nice to imagine though, isn't it?

Bad case of buyer's remorse -- again. I went crazy this weekend. I literally shopped 'til I dropped. I was at the mall 4 out of 4 days from Friday thru Monday. The sales associates at Ann Taylor knew me by name already. As I mentioned in a previous post, I had purchased a complete suit: $130 trousers, $80 blouse, $200 jacket on Friday. On Sunday, I returned the jacket and bought 3 skirts and 3 blouses. Today, I went back to return the pants (they're a little too long and can't really be altered) and I was going to exchange the blouse for a larger size (the fluted quarter-sleeves were binding on my forearms) -- but I ended up returning both items. Even the larger sized blouse didn't fit quite right. Heck, if I'm going to drop $80 for a blouse, it better fit perfectly. [more]

Fashion Emergency. If there's anyone in need of a Fashion Emergency makeover, that would be me. Joyce and I had been talking about getting a make-up lesson at the Malama Spa in the Ala Moana Shopping Center for some time now, but we finally made our appointments and took the plunge. [more]

Random Musings. I never thought that I would say this about a WWF wrestler, but the Rock is a pretty handsome guy. We went to see the Scorpion King last night, which was an enjoyable movie, full of action and interesting people and sets. I'll probably buy the DVD when it comes out.

I've come the realization that when it comes to movie actors who make my heart race, it's always the ones with the long hair. Antonio Banderas in "Interview with the Vampire" and "Desperado", Orlando Bloom in "Lord of the Rings" and now it's the Rock in "The Scorpion King." Interestingly enough, I don't find them all that attractive with their shorter 'dos. This preference must have carried over from my heavy metal days when all of the rockers had long hair, much more beautiful than mine. I guess you can call it Hair Envy.
