It's cold outside. I love this kind of weather, when it feels like the entire world is air conditioned. :-) Great weather to snuggle up under the blankies. I think I'll even need to wear socks to bed tonight to keep my toes warm.

Despite the lovely wintry weather, I'm feeling rather melancholy and blah right now... so I will spare you from my thoughts right at this moment. (It wouldn't be pretty.) Thus, no real entry tonight, folks. Sorry. Maybe tomorrow. For now, oyasumi. Snuggle up with someone you love and keep each other warm...

Downloading Bonanza. If you're on RR and experienced some lag on the internet today, it's because I was hogging all of your bandwidth. I was on the hunt for Photoshop Actions and Brushes today. I found a couple of good sites for brushes (which I posted in linkage) and downloaded most of the actions from Adobe Xchange. I think I must've downloaded about 50 brushes and over 100 actions. Way too many for me to know what to do with, unfortunately. I did play with a bunch of brushes and found that working with them is almost akin to working with rubber stamps -- without the mess to clean up afterward. As I experiment more with them, you just might see some redesigns on the horizon...

Friday Five. Smattering.org presents this week's Friday Five!

1. What's your favorite vacation spot? That would have to be Okinawa, Japan. I've been there twice, but could never tire of the locale. I have many fond memories of Okinawa.

2. Where do you consider to be the biggest hell-hole on earth? My place of former employment in Downtown Honolulu. Just thinking about my time in purgatory makes me shudder.

3. What would be your dream vacation? Taking a month to travel all over Japan and Okinawa with Hubby. Doing such things as soaking in every onsen (natural hot springs) in Japan, skiing, shopping, and lots of exploring.

4. If you could go on a road-trip with anyone, who would it be and why? That would have to be Hubby. We never get to travel together and I believe that going on a road trip together would be a great bonding experience. Besides that, Hubby is my best friend and there's no one else I'd rather spend 24/7 with -- even in close quarters.

5. What are your plans for this weekend? I will probably work on the web site for my business as well as putting together some printed information for a meeting with a potential client this upcoming week. I just finished my client's web page, which was also on my To-Do list for the weekend. (Woo! I'm ahead of schedule!) Housework and laundry is always on the agenda for the weekend, so that's a given. Toby the Japanese Spitz is overdue for a bath, so that gets put on the weekend To-Do list as well. I'll probably have to make a Sam's Club on Saturday afternoon and I'll attend a church service either on Saturday night or Sunday morning... Depending on Hubby's schedule, maybe we'll even try to have a date night.

Prolix. A word of the day is dropped into my e-mailbox twice a day by the good folks at Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster. Today's word from Dictionary.com was prolix.

Definition:
prolix \pro-LIKS; PRO-liks\, adjective:
1. Extending to a great length; unnecessarily long; wordy.
2. Tending to speak or write at excessive length.

After reading this, I thought that it would make a fine dot-com for a journal site such as mine. The Champuru.com domain name expires on March 3, 2002. Time to renew, so what better time to think of changing it? So I went to Register.com and did a search on "prolix." Wouldn't you know it, prolix.com, prolix.net, prolix.org, prolix.ws, prolix.info, prolix.biz, prolix.tv ... are TAKEN! It's such an obscure word, who would've thought that it would've made a hot seller for domain names?

I searched for prolixity and those were all taken, too -- with the exception of prolixity.org. I didn't necessarily want a .org, so I decided against changing my domain name for the timebeing.

Oh well. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. So Champuru.com lives on -- at least until March 3, 2003.

"Ooh, traffic jam!
Got more cars than a beach got sand,
Suck it up, suck it up, suck it up."

--- Dave Matthews Band, "Too Much"

This was the song I heard on the radio as I was driving in stop-and-go traffic on the commute back home this afternoon. By the way, if you've never driven in bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go traffic with a stick shift, I don't recommend it. It's an experience that will certainly ruffle your feathers and leave you feeling mightily grouchy by the time you pull into your driveway.

To say that traffic was absolutely horrendous this afternoon would be quite a gross understatement. Please, someone explain to me why people suddenly lose all semblance of intelligence when they're driving in traffic? I saw so many near-misses and examples of bad driving that all I could do was shake my head and hope that I wouldn't become a victim of their stupidity.

Anything and everything that could've happened to mess up traffic did happen between yesterday and today: house fire, water main breaks, sinkhole damage to the road causing closure of an entire main thoroughfare, police barricade, accident involving large vehicles (a semi and a cement truck) resulting in diesel fuel spills on the freeway... It's been a great week for commuting, folks. Let's just hope Friday traffic won't be as bad.

Stretchy Stuff Sucks. In anticipation of a business meeting this week, I went shopping on Tuesday night in lieu of karate class. After trying on a bunch of stuff, I bought one shirt for work -- and left feeling like I really could've used the workout instead of the new shirt. Shopping for clothes was never good for my self-esteem, but Tuesday night took the cake. [more]

Feel free to comment on the "real entry" using the comment thingie below.

I started working on a post last night -- and almost finished it. I re-read it and wondered whether I should post it or not. Being the indecisive person that I am, I saved the entry on my hard drive but didn't post it to the web. It's all about my struggles with my appearance and self-esteem as a result of a recent shopping expedition. Shopping was always bad for my self-esteem. But anyway... we'll see. I don't think too many folks really like to hear me ranting about gaining weight, do they? (But as we are heading into our 30's, it's something that most people can relate to.) Of course, the entry has my usual cynical spin to it, which Hubby says makes my rants "interesting" -- or something. Oh well, maybe I'll decide to post it tonight. But for now, I need to get my butt in gear and get to work!

Frequent Flyer. I got my Aloha Airlines Aloha Pass (frequent flyer) statement today and found out that I have 49,500 miles accumulated. Round trip (coach) from Hawaii to Las Vegas/Oakland/Orange County requires 35,000. I'm 20,500 short for a 1st class flight. However, that doesn't stop me from being totally stoked about having earned enough frequent flyer miles to actually take a trip outside of this state! Another nice thing about it is that all of those miles were earned from the marathon of business trips I took in the months from August thru December of 2001.

Now, the only problem will be convincing Hubby to take some time off from work to take a trip with me to Vegas or California... It would be nice to take a vacation with Hubby for a change. We're usually traveling alone or with others -- but haven't taken a trip together in many years. It's think it's time!

Reminiscing. Entry for Sunday, February 24, 2002 posted.

It's nearly 11:00 pm and right now I'm wishing that I had turned in about an hour ago. I have a feeling that I'll be hanging tomorrow. Better bring an extra can of Oolong tea for its caffeinated goodness. For now, oyasumi!

Okinawa Memoirs. I posted eleven photo journal entries to my Okinawa Memoirs section. These entries were originally posted on my other web site, Okinawa.com, but I figured that it would be nice to have them available here as well. Please bear in mind that these entries were written in October 1998 and July 1999 and that I kept most of the original (lame) format to retain the flavor of that period in my life. I hope you enjoy the musings and the photos as much as I enjoyed re-living those memories.

I went on another one of those obsessive cleaning rampages this afternoon. Now I'm all tuckered out. I'm sure I'll pay for the fanaticism with a hefty backache tonight. I must say that I do love the outcome of today's cleaning efforts, though. I purged quite a bit of useless stuff that was simply taking up space and collecting dust (quite literally). Gaining storage space makes me ecstatic. At any rate, I've still got to tackle my den -- but I'll probably leave that as a project for another day. For now, perhaps I'll catch up on some reading or aimless web surfing...
