Uzagaku. I just got home from the Okinawa Music Concert that was held at the Orvis Auditorium at the University of Hawaii. I have so many thoughts to express, but very little energy to do so. I also took a few pictures, although please don't expect much because I'm sure they came out quite blurry -- lighting was bad and NO flash photography allowed. Right now, I need to get to bed. It's past my bedtime.
Oh, but before I go, let's do a quick Question of the Day (thanks, Crankyangel!)
When you get woken up extra early on a weekend, does it ruin it for you, or do you make the best of it?
Let's just say that I have no problems going back to sleep if I'm still tired. Otherwise, it was a good time to wake up anyway and I end up making the best of the extra time given to me.

Friday Five, a day late. Here's this week's Friday Five, courtesy of Crankangel:
1. Have you ever had braces? Any other teeth trauma? Yes, I had braces when I was in the 7th grade. I think I wore them until my sophomore year in high school. I also had to wear those awful rubberbands and "headgear" as I slept. It wasn't pretty, nor was it any fun. At least I can say that I no longer have that terrible overbite and I now have a $3000 (not a million dollar, mind you) smile.
2. Ever broken any bones? Thank God, no.
3. Ever had any stitches? Nope!
4. What are some of the stories behind some of your [physical] scars? I have a permanent burn scar on the inside of my left forearm from the very dangerous act of being born. I don't quite know the whole story, but apparently something went awry or there was this growth on my arm when I was born and the doctor decided to burn it down with dry ice. The burn mark was as big and round as a golf ball on my forearm for many years and didn't flatten out until I hit Jr. High. Although flat, it's still there, a round scar on my arm, reminding me of all of those mean comments and curious stares from my classmates in grade school that made me so self-conscious about it.
When I raise my eyebrows, you can see a dimple in my forehead from the time when I was three years old, running around the house while my mom was mopping the floor. As you probably guessed, I slipped and slided my way right into a doorknob. (So that explains the brain damage... hmmm...)
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? Today is actually quite busy for me. This afternoon, I'll be taking my parents to a University of Hawaii baseball game (Go Warriors!). Tonight, I'll be attending the Okinawan Music Concert at the University of Hawaii's Orvis Auditorium. Tomorrow morning I'll be going to church and (hopefully) relaxing the rest of the day.

Well, guess what I ended up doing for my Friday night? Instead of relaxing and maybe making a few valentine's cards, I ended up cleaning the house. I have to admit though, it feels a lot better now that I've organized the den and the bedroom. Things were piling up and it was totally getting on my nerves. Seeing the carpet all fluffy and clean makes me happy, too.

I love Friday nights at home... to me, it's the most relaxing thing. No rushing, no hustle. No work tomorrow, no need to wake up at the crack of dawn, no schedule... It's the ultimate feeling of freedom. I love it.
So what will I be doing with my Friday night at home? I will more than likely be doing some more rubber stamping. Creating those Valentine's Day cards for you special people! Thanks to those who have already responded. For the others that haven't yet responded: don't be shy! Just drop me a line!

This is dangerous. Rubber Stamp Expo on Saturday, February 9, 2002 (10:00 am - 4:00 pm) at the Neal Blaisdell Center Hawaii Suites. Cost is $2.00. The first 200 paid will receive a free gift. I think I'll forego the free gift. I don't want to get trampled. The only thing worse than a bunch of crazed crafters were the bargain hunters at the Zooper Sale at Liberty House (now Macy's). According to this flyer, the expo promises tons of cardstock, translucent vellum and specialty papers. 1000's of rubber stamps. Embossing powders, inks and so much more!
I'm kind of afraid to go. I'm afraid of what damage I might do to my bank account at a place like this. I should probably bring only cash (within my means) and leave the credit cards and cheques at home. I really would like to go to see the product demonstrations and get some ideas for my projects. Of course, it doesn't hurt to see what kind of nifty things they have for sale, too...

My only gripe about rubber stamping is the mess that it inevitably makes. Cleaning the stamps and having to put away everything associated with the craft (cat-eye pigment inks, embossing powders, pens, stamp pads, rulers, paper cutters, glue, craft scissors, paper, etc.) A stampers kit is like a big toy box. One of the things that I learned from childhood that still carries over to my adult life is that the worst part of playing with your toys is having to put them back.

There's a baby laughing uncontrollably across the street. It's probably the most endearing and precious sound I've ever heard. It's no wonder that people try their darndest to make babies laugh. Their joy is so pure and innocent, it warms my heart.

Question of the Day. Courtesy of the queen of questionaires, Crankyangel:
Do you have "food issues" (I mean foods that you won't eat, will eat one way & so on)?
Sure, don't we all? I'm very particular about my food and how I eat it. In fact, I'm pretty much a spectacle at buffets. I really don't like my food touching, so I end up spacing everything out on my plate so that nothing really flows over into each other -- especially things with sauces. Starches can touch other things, though, because they're generally neutral-tasting. In short, I don't like my food intermingling because I like to retain the original taste of the dish without other flavors tainting it. I always get at least one comment from some unknowing spectator who will say, "is that all you're going to eat?" Then I have to go into the whole shpiel about why I only take a little bit at a time instead of piling the food on my plate like most normal people. Blah blah blah... This habit usually sends me to the buffet line a few times, because I can never get enough food on my plate the first time around because of my quirky no-touching rules.
Here's my list of stuff I'd really rather not eat:
- Cilantro (Chinese Parsley) - Uncooked Tomatoes (I'll eat 'em cooked, though!) - Bell Peppers - Watercress - Pickels - Animal innards (liver, gizzards, tongue, blood, etc.) - Pork Rinds - Miracle Whip (opposite of LadyBug who won't have mayo unless it's Miracle Whip. ;-) I will only have Best Foods mayo.)

Learn a new skill while you sleep! I've been so engrossed in this rubber stamping habit that I've been dreaming about it quite a bit recently. I'd be there at a stamping demonstration or simply at home, happily stamping away, creating beautiful works of art. When I wake up, I can't remember any of those nifty techniques that I was using in my dream and I'm nowhere near as proficient as I was when I was sleeping.
Hubby tells me of a story about a dream that he had as a teenager. He was driving a stick shift in his dream. (He only knew how to drive automatic at the time.) When he woke up, he borrowed his grandpa's truck and drove it! Isn't that weird?
Why is it that I can't do that with my rubber stamping? I've also had dreams where I was speaking in Japanese fluently, cruising around the streets of Okinawa and Heiwa-Dori. So why couldn't I wake up tomorrow and say, "I can speak Japanese!"?

UP! Zine. I made a simple banner for the Uchina Pop! (UP!) Culture e-Zine to submit to Those Brown Eyes today. The nice folks over there will be including us in the "friends of TBE" section. We can use all the help we can muster in getting the word out about the UP! Zine! In case you haven't heard about it yet, the UP! Zine is a fledgling e-Zine dedicated to the entertainment scene in Okinawa and Japan. Uchina (Okinawa) Pop and J-Pop (Japanese Pop) fans will especially enjoy the informative articles written by my friend, Richie at Uzagaku.com.
Okay, anyway... was that enough shameless self-promotion for now?
I suppose so. It's time for sleep anyway. I think I'll be going to a University of Hawaii Basketball game tomorrow night after work, so I need all the rest I can get! Woo hoo! Go Warriors!

Feeling pretty boring today, but I wrote an entry anyway. We can't all have exciting lives, right? Well, today was one of my less eventful days, but you know, most times those uneventful days are also the most relaxing.
Entry for Wednesday, January 30, 2002.

Question of the Day. Another QOTD, courtesy of CrankyAngel:
Do you have any unusual hobbies?
I have a lot of hobbies, I'm not sure if any of them are considered "unusual." I enjoy web design and journalling. I also engage in some digital photography when the opportunity presents itself. I will attempt to do some creative writing when the Muse gets motivated, but it seems that lately, my creativity is at an all-time low. Must've been that traumatic NaNoWriMo experience! (Just kidding!) I am also addicted to Rubber Stamping and paper crafts. When I come off of my hiatus, I also pursue Okinawan Dance (okay, this might be a little out of the ordinary).

Valentine's Cards. Cyn has already started on her Valentines cards! This reminded me that I better start on mine... and ask you faithful readers to send me your mailing addy so that I can send you a very special handmade card right to your mailbox. Thanks to those of you who sent me a request for a Christmas card (hope you liked 'em) and hope that you'll ask for a Valentine's Card as well. The reason I do this? Well, honestly, I need the practice. I'll be making some cards and other stamped accessories for sale at a Craft Fair in April, and I want my stamping technique to be perfect by then. So, by requesting a card, you're actually helping me a great deal -- oh yeah, and you're helping the Postal Service, too! ;-)

Updated the Zine. Sorry, no entry for tonight. I was busy updating the Uchina Pop! Culture e-Zine with the January/February 2002 article. A million thanks goes out to Richie, whose tireless efforts make the e-Zine possible! Please check it out!

Question of the Day. Okay, so this one's a few days late, but as I always say: better late than never.
What is your favorite snack food?
Now that's hard to say. I love to snack, although I'm really trying my best not to these days. But when I get the munchies, I usually find myself craving love chocolate chip cookies, M&M's, or simply a can of Pepsi. I'm a major sweet tooth, so almost anything will do. I guess it really depends what's in close proximity. For me, snacking is an impulsive thing -- which is very, very bad.

I've been feeling pretty crummy for the past few days... body aches and general lethargy. Then, there's the funky stomach and the headaches. I sure hope I'm not coming down with Hubby's stomach flu. That wouldn't be good at all. I don't particularly enjoy having the AAB (Atomic A$$ Blast) for a full week. Eeeps... and tomorrow's Monday - already! Funny how weekends go by way too quickly. Must recover. Thinking thoughts of health and wellness!
