Saturday, June 23, 2001 Wanted: More Time. If I had only one wish, it would be that there was more time in the day -- or at least shorter workweeks and longer weekends. It's already Saturday evening and I feel that I haven't accomplished much all day. [more]
Flutophone. Apparently, one of the neighborhood kids now owns a flutophone (or however the heck you spell it) because I've been hearing that infernal noise all day. The kid doesn't know how to play any songs except for a single note, which I think is "B" and is played to the rhythm of "Jingle Bells." "Jingle bells, jingle bells... jingle bells, jingle bells... jingle bells, jingle bells..." that's about it. Just that one note, over and over and over and over and over. It's driving me mad. Not that I want to hamper the musical development of this child, but I just wish all of that "development" could be a little more quiet. Ugh...
Not your typical fish story. The on-going saga of my little office aquariums rages on. I hadn't been recording it, because it's probably only interesting to the folks that are (un)lucky enough to share office space with me. But today I'll record it anyway. [more]
Another Virus! Thank God for anti-virus software! This morning, I received yet another virus in e-mail. This is the 5th in the past month or so. What's the deal? Is it just me, or are viruses becoming more common these days? I have never had a problem with viruses in the past, but now it seems to be all too often that I'm seeing that "Virus Alert" screen pop up. Just another reminder to update my virus pattern frequently!
Thursday, June 21, 2001 Dilberito. Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert has branched out into health food. Now on sale: Dilberitos! Healthy, vegetarian burritos -- hand-held and easy to eat, for people who live and work in cubicles 12-hours out of every day... Mmm... too bad they don't sell it in Hawaii yet.
First Day of Summer. It was obvious and it really FELT like summer. It was extremely hot and when I got home, clad in a quarter sleeve sweater, over a black tank top and a pair of long black pants; I was sweating pretty unattractively. Surprisingly enough, I mustered enough energy to do a Total Gym workout before dinner. The evening doesn't feel too terribly hot so far. I hope it stays that way, because I get awfully miserable when I wake up, drenched in sweat in the middle of the night.
Mango Goodness. Julie absolutely made my day today. She surprised me by stopping by my office to drop off a loaf of her famous Mango Bread. When she delivered it into my hot little hands, it was still warm and smelled heavenly. I couldn't wait even five minutes before having to rip open the plastic wrap and cut myself a slice. Out of the goodness of my heart (heh!), I shared some with my co-workers -- all of whom LOVED it. The perfect loaf of mango bread... It inspired me to try her recipe, which I will do this weekend while I still have some mangos left in my pantry. Somehow, I don't think it'll turn out as perfect as Ju's. It has something to do with her magic touch and all of that TLC that goes into it. Thanks again, Ju!
Quote o' the Day. This one is courtesy of the good folks at Franklin Covey. (Yup, my sole supplier of organizers -- before I discovered PDA's. Shhh...)
Tuesday, June 19, 2001 Still Alive. Yes, I'm still alive, although I haven't posted here for a couple of days. So much to do, so little time and I am reluctant to sacrifice much more sleep than I already have been. It severely affects my functionality throughout the day. It's not good to be caught sleeping in your cubicle, you know. Besides that, drooling on your keyboard probably isn't a good thing, either.
Sunday, June 17, 2001 Mangos a go-go! Keith gave me some more mangos yesterday. These fruits are precious and are almost akin to gold these days. Mango lovers will maim for a small harvest of these gems. Luckily, I have my very own supplier who has already blessed me with a big portion of his harvest this year. I guess you can say we barter. I give him homegrown vegetables (beets, lettuce, and eggplant) and he gives me mangos. It works out nicely. Unfortunately, mango season is way too short in my opinion. I enjoy eating chilled, sliced mangos every day. I'm getting spoiled and will suffer from severe withdrawals when the supply dries up. *cringing at the thought*
Grinds. I just established the Got Grinds? section of the Book of Days. This is where I will post my favorite recipes and my (extremely biased) restaurant reviews. I have a few recipes posted already, but it's still pretty sparse. If you'd like to submit a recipe, please e-mail me! (Pssst... This means you, Ju... your super secret Mango Bread recipe. *wink wink nudge nudge*)
Picture Book entry. I uploaded a Picture Book entry for yesterday. It features 2 pictures which nicely embody Hawaii -- at least through my lens. Please visit and enjoy!
Happy Father's Day! I get all misty when I think about how much Dad means to me. Just writing a few well-chosen words in his Hallmark makes me get all choked up. Dad and Mom have done so much for me -- not only during my childhood years, but also into my adulthood. Something about Dad's simple, kind, generous, loving and genuine spirit truly touches my heart. I hope he'll realize how much I love him -- not just on Father's Day, but every day for the rest of his life.
Busy Weekend. Non-stop. I haven't had time yet to breathe -- much less sit down and pump out an entry. I just finished making a potluck dish for Father's Day dinner for the in-laws and will be leaving in less than 5 minutes. Last night, I went to the Nakasone Dance Academy's recital "Dentoo no Bi" ("The Beauty of Tradition"), which was a butt-numbing 3.5 hours long. It was a long performance, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
