Virtual Relationship. Many of
my friends will visit this site to check up on me to make sure I'm still alive
and doing well. They read about my (mis)adventures and vicariously relive the
day with me. However, did you know that more often than not, Hubby is the one
who finds himself catching up with me via this site? Sad,
but true. If time permits,
Hubby will often phone me while he's on his break. Tonight's conversation went
something like this: Hubby:
Hi babe, how was your
day?
Me: Good,
but for some reason my neck and shoulders were like really sore all day
today. [Hinting for a
massage here. Shhh...] I
was really tired today, too.
Hubby: Aww,
how come?
Me: I
dunno.
Hubby: Oh.
What are you doing now?
Me: I'm
working on a brochure for my business. I have a potential client. I have to
meet with her sometime next week.
Hubby: Cool.
*pause* Did you update? [referring
to this site]
Me: No, I was
working on my brochure.
Hubby: Aww...
*sounding disappointed* When I come home and you're sleeping I always
check your site to see if you updated so I can see how your day went. I look
forward to that.
Me: Yeah
well, you're my biggest fan. I
guess I can't let my biggest fan down, which is why I'm updating instead of
finishing up my brochure. ;-) Perhaps
the best adjective to most accurately describe Hubby is "Busy" --
yes, that's with the capital "B." Hubby works a minimum
of 50 hours a week, often spending as much as 60 hours at his place of
employment. Of course, being the slacker that I am, I work only 40
hours a week -- or sometimes as little as 32. I
often feel like we are ships passing in the night. Depending on what Hubby's
schedule is like, a typical day can look like this: -
I wake up between 6:30 - 7:00 am and get ready to go to work. -
Leave for work between 7:30 and 8:00 am. A drowsy Hubby wakes from his fitful
slumber to see me off for the day and give me a kiss on the cheek. He waves as
he watches me drive away. -
Hubby starts work between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, depending on his schedule. -
I get home between 5:30 and 6:00 pm. -
I go to sleep between 10:00 - 11:00 pm. -
Approximately 11:30 pm (or slightly earlier, if I'm lucky), Hubby comes home.
Oftentimes, he will come home to a darkened house to a sleeping wife. He'll
sneak into the bedroom quietly and give me a goodnight kiss, then eat
leftovers and watch TV with the dog. Absence
makes the heart grow fonder. Maybe
there's some truth to that statement. Instead of this schedule driving us
apart, I notice that we're even closer than before. Our moments together seem
all the more precious. I just wish there were more moments together to be
enjoyed. ©
